Which agents come as standard with my Microsoft 365 Copilot licence?
The paid licence includes Researcher, Analyst, Facilitator, Interpreter, the Sales Agent and the Planner Agent, among others. Since July 2026 the Word, Excel and PowerPoint agents and the coaches (Prompt, Writing, Idea) are also available to everyone with Copilot Chat. Cowork and other agentic work are billed in Copilot Credits.
Which agents can I use without a paid Copilot licence?
With Copilot Chat you can use the coaches and the Word, Excel and PowerPoint agents. Other agents, such as SharePoint agents, can also run on consumption through Copilot pay-as-you-go. That way you don’t have to give everyone a full licence.
What is the difference between Researcher and a regular chat question?
Researcher independently builds a research plan, consults work and web sources and delivers a report with explicit citations — using a model of your choice. A chat question is a conversation without that structure. Rule of thumb: need a report? Researcher. Need a sparring partner? Chat.
What is the Frontier programme?
The early-access programme that lets organisations try new Copilot features before general availability — from Copilot Code to new models. Handy for staying ahead, but features may still change or disappear. We advise on what to take into production and what not.
How do I choose which agent to deploy first?
Start with the work, not the agent: where is the volume, repetition and measurable quality? For knowledge workers, Researcher and Analyst are the fastest win; for meeting teams, Facilitator; for sales, the Sales Agent; for recurring research work, Cowork. In a working session we prioritise on impact.
What is Copilot Cowork and how is it billed?
Cowork is the agent in Microsoft Copilot that carries out multi-step work for you: it plans, searches your mail, meetings and files and delivers documents. You need a Copilot licence to use it, and usage is billed in Copilot Credits. How much depends on the task, the model and the effort level you set; /cost shows your own usage.
What happens to the Learning Coach?
Microsoft is retiring it. From October 2026 you’ll see a transition notice, and at the end of December 2026 the Learning Coach disappears; its successor is called Learning Agent. If you use the coach in a learning programme, plan the switch now.
